“Gathering the Scattered and scattering the Gathered”

We have been praying about the future ministry and role of CFSR. In April, four members of the Leadership Team attended a conference in Bangkok of leaders from International Churches in many countries. You will hear more in the coming weeks about how God has been challenging us.

In May we will begin to consider together on Sundays, teaching on the nature of “church”. This will include looking at the role of CFSR as “an international church”. As we explore our part of a movement of “global migration” we will continue to look at the promises in Matthew 28.

Pray that God will clearly lead all of us as we plan for the future direction of CFSR. Pray also as we prepare to move to a new location for Sundays from 7th June.

February 2015

Colossians 2:9-10 (NLT)
9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

During February our preaching focus will be on the first two chapters of Colossians. The theme of this “prison letter” from Paul is the complete adequacy of Christ as contrasted with the emptiness of mere human philosophy. The warnings about heresy and false teaching seem just as relevant in the twenty-first century as they were in the first!

On-going prayer for the future ministry of CFSR
We are continuing to seek God’s leading for the future ministry, direction and location of CFSR. The specific Saturday prayer times in January were helpful and we believe that God will show us the way forward as we are open to Him.
We praise God that we have been able to obtain local approval for our re-registration from the local department. Our papers have now been forwarded to the Ministry in Phnom Penh.

January 2015

A New Year—new challenges
This new year brings new beginnings and challenges – for CFSR. We need to find a new place to meet. There will be time needed to hear from God; time to search for a solution that can accommodate up to 300 people; financial planning and implications; and a willingness to change!
But this provides us with an opportunity to review the past and consider the future ministry and direction of CFSR. We want to use the month of January to encourage all of us to pray to hear what God’s plan and purpose is for our congregation. We are asking for this to be our prayer focus for this month.
We are asking as many of the congregation as possible to join together in the Church - primarily to listen to God on Saturday 10th, 17th & 23rd from 12 noon until 2:00pm for prayer and fasting. At the end of the month – on Saturday 31st January from 10:00am to 12 noon – we will meet together to share what God has been saying to us as we begin to take practical steps in “Moving Forward”.

December 2014

ADVENT—a time of preparation
The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." The focus is the celebration of the birth of Jesus—the First Advent; and the anticipation of the return of Christ—his Second Advent.
Advent is more than marking a historical event, it is celebrating a truth about God; the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation might be reconciled to God. In this double focus on past and future, Advent can remind us of our own spiritual journey.
During this month, our teaching, our readings and our carols will reflect that Christ has come, that He is present in the world today, and that He will come again in power.

October 2014

In October we conclude our look at the prophesy of Jonah. Although he is one of the minor prophets his story has major lessons for us about the purpose and mission of God. We have our 8th Anniversary this month - eight years of God's faithfulness.
John 13:34-35 - A NEW COMMANDMENT
Sometimes it is hard to show love to believers with whom we have differences on matters of church practice, or theology or doctrine! This can be a real issue for us in the diverse Christian community in Siem Reap as well as within our church. At CFSR, we are an international, inter-denominational church with believers from over 30 different countries and many different denominations. We need to address issues and sort out the essentials (on which we need to be of one mind) and the non-essentials (on which we can differ). During (& following) our Anniversary Service on 19th October (with our visiting speaker Pastor Jon Jainga - from Philipines) we will explore what unity in Christ should look like.

Pale or Vibrant?

"Be holy for I am holy" - what does that mean for us in everyday living? It has been said that we cannot drift into holiness. It has to be intentional! We are part of the world around us but we are not "of the world". So this month we will be exploring some of the ways that we are to be different and distinct. Are we pale imitations or vibrant living reflections of God's grace in our dealings with others?
On 8th June we will be celebrating Pentecost - that event that marked a significant new stage in the life of the Church as the Body of Christ. This means that now "His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." (2 Peter 1:3). Pray for Holy Spirit to guide and challenge us as we look - together - at some of the "Marks of Christian Character".

Living out our faith

How does the cross of Easter affect our “everyday” Christian lives? Do we only focus on it at Easter and when we come together to celebrate communion?
Here are some questions to help us consider how the Cross can help us wherever we are on our journey of faith.
 What impact has the Cross made on my personality?
 Do I live in the light of the freedom the cross gives me?
 Am I dying to myself every day to live for Christ?
 Do I face suffering with faith and assurance?
 What is my attitude to death in the light of the resurrection?

Easter and the Cross - the core of our faith

The cross of Christ is the heartbeat of Christianity. It is a place of pain and horror, of wonder and beauty, all at the same time. Here we see the glory of God’s grace confronting the awfulness of our sin.
But what does the wonder of the cross mean to us in our “everyday” Christian lives? Do we only focus on it at Easter and when we come together to celebrate communion?
Here are some questions which may help us, during this Easter, to consider how the wonder of the Cross can relate to where we are on our journey of faith.
 What impact has the Cross made on my personality?
 Do I live in the light of the freedom the cross gives me?
 Am I dying to myself every day to live for Christ?
 Do I face suffering with faith and assurance?
 What is my attitude to death in the light of the resurrection?

Let us use this holiday time—whether here or away—to reflect and put each part of our lives (every thought, word and action) under the shadow of the amazing cross.

Lessons on the Journey to the Cross

We are about to start a period of 40 days of preparation for the events of Easter. Some Churches call this “Lent” and there are often traditions associated with it. Here in Cambodia, where Christian holidays and festivals are not widely celebrated, it is important that we take time to focus on Jesus’ Journey to the Cross.
The traditional start of Lent is on Ash Wednesday—this year 5 March. On the CFSR Attenders group https://www.facebook.com/groups/cfsiemreap/ there is a link to a file with suggested readings through the season of lent. These will take you through the accounts in the four gospels.
Our preaching programme will also focus on “Lessons on the Journey”. Pray that God will prepare each of our hearts as we allow the Holy Spirit to bring fresh truths to us.

Marks of a multi-cultural church

We have been challenged from several "passionate" prayers over recent weeks to see change - in us, in those around us and in our world. But we are community people. We are "the church", those who are "assembled" or "called out" [Ekklesia]. Indeed, the bible calls us "the Bride of Christ".

Here in Siem Reap we worship as a multi-national, multi-cultural and inter-denominational church? So what are some of the distinctives of CFSR? In February and into March, we will be exploring some of these "Marks of a multi-cultural church" from the Bible. Join us and pray that God will speak to all of us through His inspired Word.

Passionate Prayers for Change
The Bible contains a whole variety of incredible prayers. They are included in Scripture for our benefit and example. Some are very short, others are discussions with God - conversations even. Over the coming weeks in CFSR, we are going to explore some of these. They are all passionate prayers, often expressed in times of great pressure and stress. Our prayers can have an impact on history. We, too, can touch the heart of God. Our prayers in God's hands aren't as ordinary as we may think.
