April 2016

“New Beginnings”
April in Cambodia is remembered for a number of reasons – it is usually very hot. The “cool” season has passed and the rains of the next wet season are still a long way off! It is also the time of “Khmer New Year”. This three-day festival starts on 13th April and is the biggest holiday in Cambodia. It is a time for families, for giving and for new beginnings.
In Angkorian times, New Year used to be the first day of the first lunar month. Then one of the kings adopted the solar calendar and changed it to the present timing. April was after the previous year’s harvest had been stored and well before the new rains so the farmers had more time to celebrate.
It is good for all of us to take time to celebrate – to enjoy a break with friends or family, to reflect on what God has done in our lives and to look forward to new beginnings. For many that will mean time away from Cambodia or, maybe, just away from Siem Reap. For others, it will be time to change our routine and reflect on God’s goodness while remaining at home. Perhaps, both individually and collectively, there may also be “new beginnings”?

Isaiah 43:19
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

During April in CFSR we will be hearing stories – lessons of God’s grace in our lives; and challenges from the Lord Jesus – and then, at the end of the month, we will be starting a new series. We will be looking at God’s plan and purpose for Joshua and the people of Israel as they entered the Promised Land.
As a Leadership, we have been seeking God and reviewing the ministry of CFSR over the first, nearly, 10 years. What does God want of us – and for us – as an international, but also local, church in Siem Reap as we move forward?
We need to involve the whole Church Family in this process and on Sunday 24th April, we will be sharing the way God has spoken to us. There will be information to enable us to begin an ongoing process of praying and discussing the way ahead. What does God want of each of us in CFSR as we journey on in Siem Reap? Be prayerful and expectant.
